Do Not Yell Or Hit Your Wife - NikahExplorer
In order to get to Jannah, a person has to make sure that he is the best to his spouse/Spouses. Do not shout at your spouse’s for mistakes they make. A Hadeeth says: “The best from amongst you are those who are best to their wives.” (Ibn Majah)
Sometimes wife does a mistake like she burns food by mistake or forgets to do any work, at this moment yelling is not good but a husband needs to be patient. It’s a human nature when a person doesn’t get what he/she expects then he gets aggressive and angry. But to fight with anger shows the real men power not to fight with other people or with your wife. Shouting is a verbal abuse which spoils relationships.
The Messenger of Allah, Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) said: "If any of you becomes angry, keep silent." (Reported by Imaam Ahmad, al-Musnad, 1/329; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 693, 4027).
Because most of the time, the angry person loses self control and could utter words of kufr/disbelief or curses other and these all things can weaken the relationship. In the relationship of marriage sometimes person becomes too angry that he utters words of divorce (talaaq) which would destroy his home, or words of slander which would bring him the enmity and hatred of his wife/wives. So, keeping silent at the moment of anger is best to avoid such things which can later put the person in regret. It is for both husband and wife, if one spouse sees that the other is very angry, he or she should restrain his or her own anger, and not respond immediately.
If a person gets too angry and hits his wife hard then his wife should let her husband calm down then say him such words which will make him realize that what he has done. For example wife should say "Is this how you treat the mother of your children and the one who is closest to you?" Or she should show her husband the marks that hurt her. Even then if he doesn’t realize then she should remind him Allah’s punishments.
Allah says in Quran, in Surah An-Nisa, verse:19
“And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good”.
If there is a no option for a person who’s wife is disobedient to him then he can hit her after warning her several times. But Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) said that hit her in a way that is not painful and the husband should avoid hitting parts of the body that are sensitive, such as the head and stomach, and the face, because the Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) forbade hitting the face in general. Muaawiyah ibn Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said, O Messenger of Allah, what are the rights of the wife of any one of us over us? He said, That you feed her as you feed yourself and clothe her as you clothe yourself, and that you do not say May Allah make your face ugly or hit her i.e., in the face. (Reported by Abu Dawood, 2/244; Ibn Maajah, 1850; Ahmad, 4/446).
