Compliments in Marriage - NikahExplorer
"…And live with them in kindness…" (Quran 4:19)
This is the verse of the Quran that a man should keep in mind whilst living with his spouse in marriage and the wife, likewise, should also equal the same. Kindness does not only involve giving the due rights of the wife or the husband but also involves unasked responsibilities from both the parties. One of those unasked duties is to compliment your wife and your husband regularly.
Compliments in marriage keep the marriage alive and a living marriage gets the blessings of Allah. Women love to be praised and men love to be appreciated. So go ahead and tell your wife she looks beautiful, tell her “honey, wear the red dress, I like you in that.” Likewise the relationship goes a long way when the wife pecks the husband on the cheek whilst he helps in washing the dishes (and don’t say he doesn’t!) When was the last time you praised your wife? Even a “you’re the cutest wife ever” said by pulling her cheeks is extremely beneficial for the relationship. Be spontaneous in your marriage. Bring some new praise to the table everyday.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to often praise his wives and compliment them. He used to say about Hazrat Khadijah that she was his most loved because she believed in him when no one else did. When the spouse smiles or laughs as a result of praise from the other spouse, Allah tells his angels to shower blessings on them. Small compliments to your husband like “Thank you for taking care of us, you are doing great!” or to your wife “you look adorable sometimes” are all it takes to keep the marriage alive and kicking and indeed are the best reward for the spouse’s efforts. For both the parties in a relationship make numerous efforts to make it work. Compliments and praise is the best pay-off indeed and gains the rewards and blessings of Allah as well. So be generous in praising and InshAllah your marriage will be successful.
