Wife’s Rights in Islam:

Islam has defined the rights of both husband and wife, and no one can deny them. ALLAH Almighty said in the Holy Quran:

“And of His signs is this: He created for you spouses from yourselves that ye might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who reflect.” [Quran: 30:21]

Respect and Love your Wife:

The husband has more responsibilities than the wife, he should protect her, take care of her and give all the necessary things to his wife. As ALLAH said in the Surah An-Nisa:

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women…” [Surah An-Nisa: 34].

Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W) also advised us to protect and provide all the necessary rights to wifes. He (S.A.W.W) said:

“Fear Allah concerning women! Verily you have taken them on the security of Allah, and intercourse with them has been made lawful unto you by words of Allah…Their rights upon you are that you should provide them with food and clothing in a fitting manner.” (Muslim, 1218)

Is it important to be kind and respectful to your wife?

Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W) always advised to be kind and respect all men kind, especially wifes. He love and respect her wifes and set an example for us. Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W) said:

“I entreat you to treat women well for they have been created from a rib and the most crooked part of a rib is the upper part. If you insist on straightening it, you will break it. If you leave it, it will remain crooked. So, I entreat you to treat women well.” (Bukhari)

Did Islam gives equal rights to husband and wife?

Islam has given equal rights to husband and wife and most people are completely unaware of them. Every woman should research about these rights before marriage and try to understand them. ALLAH Almighty said in the Holy Quran:

“And they (women) have rights (over their husbands) similar (to those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect) to what is reasonable” (Quran 2:228).

Is fulfilling these rights the way to please ALLAH Almighty?

To please ALLAH Almighty, every husband should research and study these rights.

“The one who strives for the sake of his family is like the one who struggles in the way of Allah.” (Behaar al-Anwaar, vol. 96, p. 324)

Is Haq Mehr the part of Wife’s Rights?

In Islam haq mehr is the necessary part of the nikkah, husband must pay haq mehr to his wife. It can be in the form of money or property. Because Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W) said nikkah is invalid without mehr. ALLAH Almighty said in Holy Quran:

“And give to the women (whom you marry) their ‘Mahr’ with a good heart” (Quran 4:4).

Is Wife can take Khola?

Islam has given the right to wife to take Khola from her husband. Usually in Nikah-nama this section is crossed by the Qazi, and it is wrong. If she is unhappy and does not want to live with her husband, she has the right to file for khula (separation).
